Speaking after attending the ceremony, the Upper Bann representative said:
“It was an honour to stand shoulder to shoulder with the community of Gilford at this very emotional and moving ceremony.
During the service a new plaque was unveiled with the names of 17 young men who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War. All these young men were from the village and their names have now been etched to the Memorial. As it should be given their sacrifice, their name liveth forevermore now in the heart of the village they called home.
Thank you to all those who were involved in the research and organising of this event. Special thanks to our very own historian Richard Edgar who was instrumental in identifying these missing names and having them documented and added. Also thanks to Bill McKeown and all those in Stramore Community Association for helping to make this fitting memorial possible.”
