Vital that terrorist actions not erased from history

Carla Lockhart MP • November 14, 2023

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart attended the launch of a new book detailing the stories of those impacted by IRA terrorism, titled ‘The Border Cleansing’, at the Seagoe Hotel last week.

Speaking after joining a large crowd in attendance at the event, the DUP representative said:

“There are those in our society who want the actions of terrorists to be forgotten. We are continually told to forget about the past, and to look to the future.

I for one will not forget about the past. To do so would be to forget the innocent victims of terrorism. It is a sickening reflection on society that victims are told to forget about justice and to move on, whilst the apologists for terror glorify the very actions that took so many innocent lives.

That is why this book, and others like it, are so important. We need the story of how republicans sought to ethnically cleanse the border area to be told. That the blatantly sectarian campaign of the IRA is not allowed to be forgotten.

I commend those victims of terror for telling their story through this publication, and indeed commend the publishers for telling these stories. I would encourage people to purchase this important book.”
