MP joins with community at Remembrance events across Upper Bann

Carla Lockhart MP • November 14, 2023

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart was honoured to join with local communities across Upper Bann at a number of Remembrance Sunday events. The DUP representative attended Acts of Remembrance at Scarva, Dollingstown, Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge, as well as the annual Salvation Army service in Lurgan on Sunday evening. The DUP MP also attended the Act of Remembrance at Portadown FC on Saturday.

After attending these events, the Upper Bann MP said:

“It is an honour as Member of Parliament to join with local communities across Upper Bann at Remembrance Sunday events.

This year I was privileged to stand with local people at Scarva, Dollingstown, Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge as communities gathered at war memorials to solemnly remember the fallen. These are sombre events, when we all give thanks for the service and sacrifice of those who gave all that we might live in freedom today.

I want to place on record my thanks to all those involved in organising these Acts of Remembrance across Upper Bann. Local Royal British Legion members put a huge amount of work into ensuring these extremely dignified events are held, and that communities have the opportunity to remember the fallen from their local areas. We are also thankful for all those who take part in the parades, representing a wide range of organisations, and also our local bands who provide the music. These events bring communities together, to allow us as one to say “We will remember them”.

I also want to thank the Salvation Army in Lurgan for once again hosting a beautiful service on Sunday evening at which the community came together to reflect upon the sacrifice of so many from the area. It is always a very dignified service and as always the music was superb.

Finally, my thanks to the Directors at Portadown Football Club for inviting me to lay a wreath at their Act of Remembrance at Shamrock Park. It is always an honour to join with the Club at this service.”
