Awareness of menopause must increase

Carla Lockhart MP • January 17, 2023

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart has joined with Knitted Knockers Northern Ireland at their first ever ‘Managing the Menopause – Women’s Wellness Day” event held at Brownlow House on Saturday.

Speaking after attending the event, where she was joined by Councillor Margaret Tinsley, Carla said:

“This was a very important event, providing an opportunity for women to discuss the menopause and how it impacts on life.

It was also an opportunity to raise important matters such as how employers can help women going through the menopause. Certainly as things stand, there is a need for reform of employment law to offer greater recognition and support for employees in the workplace when they face the menopause.

My thanks go to Knitted Knockers Northern Ireland for their ongoing championing of this issue, alongside the range of other invaluable work they do. The group has launched a menopause café, and I would encourage support for this initiative.

The most important message for women to hear is that they are not alone, and there is support available. We are very fortunate to have Knitted Knockers based at Brownlow House and I assure the group of my ongoing support in the future.”
