Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the commencement of site works at Chestnut Place flats, marking an important step forward in the long-awaited demolition process.

Speaking on the progress, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“I am pleased to confirm that site works have now commenced at Chestnut Place flats. This is a significant development in what has been a long and frustrating wait for the local community, who have been eager to see this site cleared and repurposed.

“There have been several unavoidable delays, particularly due to essential NIE alterations and recent adverse weather conditions. However, I have remained in close contact with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive and NIE to push for progress, and I am pleased that work is now underway.

“I want to thank local residents for their patience throughout this process. This marks the beginning of much-needed change for the area, and I will continue to work with all relevant parties to ensure the demolition is completed as swiftly as possible.”
