RABI Fuel Grant to Open on 27th January – Supporting Farmers Through Winter

Carla Lockhart MP • January 22, 2025

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, is urging farmers to take full advantage of the RABI (Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution) Winter Fuel Grant, which opens for applications on Monday, 27th January at 9am.

The grant, designed to help farming households manage the added financial pressures of the cold winter months, provides £400 per eligible household to help cover fuel costs. Open to both working and non-working farmers in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, this vital support is expected to be in high demand.

Speaking on the issue Ms Lockhart said, “The winter period brings unique challenges for our farming community, and the cost of heating homes adds further pressure to already tight budgets. This grant is a fantastic opportunity for farming households to receive much-needed support with their fuel costs.

“I encourage all eligible households to apply as early as possible on 27th January to ensure they don’t miss out. The process is straightforward, and the funds can make a real difference to farming families during these colder months.”

To prepare for the application process, Ms Lockhart recommends that applicants:

- Review eligibility criteria and terms and conditions available at [rabi.org.uk/winterfuel](https://rabi.org.uk/winterfuel)

- Gather necessary information, including bank account details (please note: business accounts are not accepted).

“This is a simple and effective way to access financial support, but time is of the essence. If you know someone in the farming community who could benefit, please help spread the word and encourage them to apply.”

The RABI Fuel Grant has proven extremely popular in previous years, so setting a reminder and preparing ahead of the application opening is key.

Carla Lockhart continues to work closely with organisations like RABI and the Ulster Farmers’ Union to support rural communities and provide resources to help tackle the challenges they face.
