Standing with the Persecuted Church – World Watch List 2025 Launch
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined Open Doors UK & Ireland for the launch of their World Watch List 2025, which highlights the 50 countries where Christians face the most severe persecution for their faith.

Reflecting on the event, Carla Lockhart said:
“The World Watch List is both sobering and essential. It sheds light on the unimaginable trials faced by our brothers and sisters in Christ across the globe – real people who live under the daily threat of violence, imprisonment, and even death for proclaiming their faith in Jesus. The report highlights countries such as North Korea, Nigeria, Iran, Somalia, and Afghanistan, where persecution is at its most extreme. These are not distant statistics, but stories of faith under fire. Despite unimaginable challenges, many believers stand firm in their hope in Christ, inspiring us to stand with them in prayer and action.”
Carla Lockhart, who has long been an advocate for the persecuted church, praised the work of Open Doors, saying: “Open Doors is an amazing organisation that I love working with, both in Westminster and at home in Northern Ireland. I feel deeply convicted to advocate for the persecuted church. While we enjoy the freedoms to worship, pray, and share our faith openly in the UK, millions of Christians around the world do not. This is why I remain committed to ensuring that this issue remains firmly on the UK Government’s agenda. Freedom of religion is a fundamental human right, and our Government must do more to secure commitments to protect it worldwide.”
She also expressed her gratitude to constituents who have supported this vital cause:
“I am so encouraged by the many constituents who have reached out in support of this mission. Your prayers, advocacy, and actions make a real difference. Together, we can ensure that the voices of the persecuted are heard, and we can stand with them as the body of Christ.”
The World Watch List 2025 launch is a powerful reminder of the need for prayer, advocacy, and action to support the persecuted church. Carla Lockhart concluded: “Let’s pray, speak out, and act so that the light of Christ can shine in even the darkest places.”
