Open Door’ in Mourneview a great community asset

Carla Lockhart MP • January 9, 2023

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart has visited ‘The Open Door Connect Café’ in Mourneview, which is run in conjunction with Emmanuel Church Lurgan as part of their community outreach work.

Speaking after the visit, the DUP MP said:

“The Open Door Connect Café here in the heart of Mourneview is a fantastic initiative. It is a warm, safe space with a bowl of soup, tea, coffee and some biscuits for anyone calling in. There is also the opportunity to grab a game of pool or play darts, and to spend time out of the house and socialise with those in the community.

Isolation is a very real issue in our local communities, and we want to encourage people to come out of their homes and spend time in the company of others. It is great that such places are within close knit communities and I know the people of Mourneview will benefit greatly from the ‘Open Door Connect Café’ being located in their area.

I want to commend the church, and in particular Farrah and William McAvoy, for spearheading this work. They have a great heart for people and it shows in the warm welcome for all those visiting the café.

The café operates every Wednesday from 12.30 to 2pm at Mourneview Community Centre. There is no charge for visiting and everyone is welcome. I would encourage the community to call in!”
