Lockhart congratulates New Years Honours recipients

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has congratulated local recipients of New Years Honours, in the first list issued by His Majesty King Charles III.

Commenting, Carla Lockhart said:

 

“It was wonderful to read the names of so many people across Upper Bann who have been recognised for their contribution to society, through the Honours system.

 

This is a truly special award, and I know having spoken to recipients of Honours that it is a truly humbling experience. No one sets out to receive an Honour, but rather it is often those who live within the community that has benefited from the service of the individual who help bring about the award.

 

I am particularly delighted for local recipients. Trevor Robinson has been a magnificent leader in the field of education for many years, and I am absolutely delighted he has been recognised with an OBE. Likewise, Robert Leckey has also been recognised for his outstanding contribution in the field of education with an MBE.

 

Several recipients have also been recognised with the BEM. Derek and Raye Greenaway have both given so much to the Boys Brigade in the Portadown area, helping to shape generations of young men. I am delighted this has been recognised. Mr Jim McDowell has also had his service to young people recognised, also with a BEM.

 

It was lovely to learn of awards for Mr David Quigg, for services to Police and Militrary Welfare, to John Stewart for his service to the Royal British legion, and to Victor Chestnutt, who whilst not local was a tireless and spirited champion for local farmers in his time as UFU President. All three are greatly deserved.

 

My congratulations go to all the recipients, and my thanks go to each and every one of them for their service to our community.”
