Lurgan Park Fountain Update

Carla Lockhart MP • March 5, 2024

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart has welcomed the commencement of the repair works to Lurgan Park Fountain which has not been working since before COVID.

Speaking on the matter Carla said, “two years ago I started a campaign to have the unique and beautiful Lurgan Park fountain restored.  I am delighted to update everyone that works have commenced and Council are working towards switch on at the end of March.

The fountain has not been working since before COVID.  It was raised with me in 2022 and I have been pressing Council to address this and get it functioning again.

Owing to how ornate the fountain is the mechanics of it and space underneath it for repairing it, it has been challenging but I am delighted with the progress.  I think people do not always appreciate the history of this fountain and I never hold back on ensuring people do know the fountain is one of the most beautiful features in the Park.  It was made in the Coalbrookdale foundry and is amongst only 4 that remains.  Otherwise known as the Jubilee Fountain, it was erected to celebrate 50 years of the reign of Queen Victoria and has been a landmark in Lurgan since 1888. In the 1920s it exchanged its original position in the town centre for a new position in Lurgan Park.

I look forward to seeing it sparkle again.  Thank you to Mr Russell Eastwood and his team who work tirelessly to improve and enhance the Park.”
