Lockhart Highlights Strong Community Spirit Across Upper Bann at Local Events
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the strength of community spirit across the constituency following a busy Saturday attending a range of local events and initiatives.
Mrs Lockhart began the day in Blackskull Orange Hall at the Blackskull Orange and Blue Defenders Big Breakfast, where she met with organisers, supporters and members of the local community.
She then visited Ballymacanallan Orang Hall at Gilford, before attending the Lord Mayor’s Big Breakfast in Brownlow Courtyard in support of the Purple Poppy Appeal, organised by the Ancre Somme Association.
The day concluded at Hanover FC, where more than 300 breakfasts were served as part of a fundraising effort to support the development of new facilities at Brownstown.
Speaking after the events, Mrs Lockhart said:
“It was a real pleasure to attend a number of fantastic events across Upper Bann and to see first-hand the incredible work being carried out by local groups and volunteers.
From Blackskull to Brownlow and Hanover, there was a wonderful atmosphere at each event, with people coming together not only to enjoy good food and company but to support important causes within their communities.
The Lord Mayor’s Big Breakfast for the Purple Poppy Appeal was particularly special, raising vital funds to recognise and remember the contribution of animals in conflict. I want to commend the Ancre Somme Association for organising such a successful and meaningful event.”
Mrs Lockhart also paid tribute to local sports clubs and community organisations for their ongoing contribution.
“Hanover FC is a fantastic example of a club at the heart of its community. The turnout and support on the day was outstanding, and it was great to see such strong backing for their plans to develop new facilities.
Across every event I attended, one thing was clear, our communities are built on generosity, hard work and a willingness to support one another.”
She added:
“These events do not happen without dedicated volunteers who give up their time to organise, fundraise and bring people together. They deserve enormous credit.
It was a busy day, but one that perfectly showcased the best of Upper Bann.”
