Lockhart commends community spirit at Killicomaine Fun Day and bonfire celebrations
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the outstanding community spirit on display during a visit to the Killicomaine Fun Day, commending local volunteers and bonfire builders for their dedication in bringing the community together ahead of the Twelfth celebrations.
Mrs Lockhart visited the event hosted by the Killicomaine Residents Group and also spent time in Parkmore, where she met local residents and volunteers preparing for the Eleventh Night celebrations.
Mrs Lockhart said:
“It was a pleasure to visit Killicomaine and Parkmore and to see first-hand the incredible work being carried out by local residents and volunteers."
The commitment, dedication and community pride on display was evident everywhere I went. These events don’t happen by accident. They are the result of countless hours of hard work by people who are passionate about their communities and committed to preserving our traditions.
Our bonfires remain an important part of our local heritage and culture. They provide an opportunity for families, friends and neighbours to come together, strengthen community bonds and celebrate traditions that have been passed down through generations.
The sense of community right across Upper Bann is second to none. The pride people take in their local areas, their heritage and one another is something we should all celebrate and cherish.
It was also lovely to bring Charlie along to see the impressive Corcrain bonfire. It is always encouraging to see younger generations taking an interest in our traditions and the communities that keep them alive.
I want to thank the Killicomaine Residents Group, the volunteers in Parkmore, the bonfire builders and everyone who worked so hard to organise another successful community celebration. I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Eleventh Night.”
