Lockhart praises community spirit at South Lurgan Eleventh celebrations

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the organisers of a successful Eleventh of July Fun Day and Tea Dance in Lurgan, commending the outstanding community spirit on display ahead of the annual Twelfth celebrations.

Mrs Lockhart attended the event, organised jointly by South Lurgan Community Forum and Mourneview, Grey and Hospital Estate Community Association, where local families, friends and neighbours gathered to enjoy an afternoon of entertainment, fellowship and celebration.

Mrs Lockhart said:

“It was a pleasure to attend the Eleventh of July Fun Day and Tea Dance and to see so many people from across the community coming together to enjoy the celebrations."

There is something truly special about this time of year. For many people, it is like Christmas Day. It is an opportunity to celebrate our rich cultural traditions, spend time with family and friends, and renew friendships that have often lasted a lifetime.

It was also great to see the bonfire standing proudly, ready for lighting later that evening. The tremendous work that goes into organising these events often goes unseen, but it is appreciated by everyone who attends.

I want to pay tribute to South Lurgan Community Forum and Mourneview, Grey and Hospital Estate Community Association for all the hard work that went into organising such a successful event. Their dedication and commitment to bringing people together is a credit to the local community.

The Eleventh and Twelfth celebrations continue to showcase the very best of our culture, our traditions and our community spirit. I wish everyone a safe, enjoyable and memorable Twelfth.”
