Lockhart highlights Christian persecution on ‘Wear It Red’ Day

Carla Lockhart MP • November 29, 2022

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined with colleagues Ian Paisley MP and Jim Shannon MP in ‘Wearing it Red’, to highlight the ongoing prevalence of the persecution of Christians across the world. The DUP representatives were joined by the Prime Ministers Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, Fiona Bruce MP.

Speaking from Westminster, Carla Lockhart said:

“Sadly across the world on a weekly basis we hear of further instances of the persecution of Christians for their faith.

Since becoming MP, I have raised this issue repeatedly with the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Office, to ensure the UK is leading the campaign for protection for those of Christian belief from persecution. I have raised issues in Nigeria, Myanmar, Vietnam, China and many more countries, and will continue to do so. We enjoy a great deal of freedom here that Christians elsewhere in the world just do not have. We must be their voice.

It was good to be joined today for ‘Wear it Red’ Day by the Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief, Fiona Bruce MP. Fiona and I have become good friends, in our shared interest on this issue and the protection of the unborn child. Fiona is a very effective and passionate voice for the persecuted church.

In the new year Open Doors will unveil their 2023 World Watch List, outlining the worst countries for persecution. Governments must sit up and take notice of this report, and act accordingly. I will be pressing our Government to act, and will remain a consistent and persistent voice for the persecuted church as MP.”
