BANBRIDGE FOLKS SIGN LOCKHARTS NOMINATION PAPERS

Carla Lockhart MP • Jun 05, 2024

Candidates across Upper Bann will this week nominate for the forthcoming Westminster election. This is a legal process that each candidate must complete to allow their names to appear on the ballot paper. As part of the process each candidate must get 10 signatures of people normally from across their electoral area. Carla Lockhart took to Facebook to highlight some of those supporting her.

Speaking on the eve of her nomination Carla said, “it has been the honour of a lifetime to serve as your MP in Westminster. It is task I take seriously and I work hard to fulfil the requirements and expectations of my constituents. I love helping people and trying to deliver on the promises I make prior to any election. On this occasion for my nominations I have sought to get a spread of names across the area that represent a very broad spectrum of people and am delighted to have as my proposer, Mr Denis Watson and seconded by Mrs Sara Watson. I also have the support of local man Mr Stuart Magill, and Mr Jim McElroy from Banbridge. These good folks have been so kind along with others to sign my papers and I am delighted with their support.

Sara is an amazing person. Most locally will know her as Adam’s mummy and will be aware of the journey she has had to travel with having lost her little boy to cancer. Sara and I have been in contact many many times working on improved services for families whose lives have been turned upside down with a diagnosis of childhood cancer. I have and continue to press for tangible changes that will help in these difficult times for such families. Jim is a stalwart within politics having served on Banbridge Council. He is a steady hand and a wise head and someone who has navigated many twists and turns in politics. I am thankful for his support. Also Mr Stuart Magill, Stuart is a Banbridge man through and through. He is very active in Orange circles and is someone who seeks to promote and preserve our culture. Stuart organised the Hiking for Heroes challenge where he along with a team climbed mount Kilimanjaro and raised thousands of pounds for Daisy Lodge in support of Adam Watson. I am so appreciative of Stuart’s public endorsement for my campaign. This is just a sample of those who have signed my nominations. Thank you to everyone who has shown me support across Upper Bann. I never would take a vote for granted and will fight for every vote in the forthcoming election. I will also speak up, work hard and deliver.”
