Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart Joins Celebrations as Upper Bann Fusiliers Flute Band Marks 20th Anniversary with Spectacular Parade

Carla Lockhart MP • April 30, 2025

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has praised the Upper Bann Fusiliers Flute Band following a superb evening in Lurgan, as the band celebrated its 20th anniversary with a tremendous annual parade.

With around 40 bands descending on the town, the streets of Lurgan were alive with music, colour and community spirit. Spectators from near and far lined the parade route to enjoy a fantastic display of culture and heritage, marking a key date in the local marching calendar.

Speaking after the event, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“I love a good band parade – and this one was exceptional! A massive well done to the Upper Bann Fusiliers on their 20th anniversary and on hosting such a superb event in the heart of Lurgan. The atmosphere was incredible and the turnout reflected just how highly regarded this band is, not only locally but across the country.”

“Bands play a vital role in preserving our heritage, providing a sense of identity and belonging for so many. They teach discipline, teamwork and dedication – values we should all encourage. Upper Bann’s parade certainly set the tone for what promises to be a great marching season ahead.”

“And credit to the band not only for the event itself, but also for the clean-up operation afterwards – a real example of pride in both community and tradition.”

To mark the significance of this milestone, Carla Lockhart also tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM 1137) in the House of Commons, officially recognising the 20th anniversary of the Upper Bann Fusiliers and recording their contribution in the historic records of Parliament.

“I always like to recognise important local occasions in Parliament, and it was a privilege to mark this one with an EDM. The Upper Bann Fusiliers have spent two decades bringing music, discipline and community engagement to the fore. Their anniversary parade is a testament to that legacy, and I commend everyone involved – past and present – for their dedication.”

“Congratulations once again to the Upper Bann Fusiliers,” Carla added. “Here’s to many more successful years to come and to the culture and tradition that continues to be proudly celebrated through music.”
