Service of veterans will always be appreciated

Local MP Carla Lockhart has joined with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council Veterans Champion Cllr Lavelle McIlwrath at a very successful Veterans Breakfast in Brownlow Castle.

Speaking after attending the event, the DUP MP for Upper Bann said:

“Our veterans community is vibrant across Upper Bann and I want to pay tribute to my colleague, Cllr Lavelle McIlwrath, who as Veterans Champion in the ABC Council area is doing great work in supporting those who have served our nation and community.

This breakfast is just one example of the ways in which veterans can be brought together. Some veterans can feel isolated in the community, so events where they can be encouraged to come out, to meet people, and to even reminisce about their service are vital to the mental health and wellbeing of veterans. I know from speaking with many in attendance on Saturday that this event was very well received, enjoyed by many, and the chat at the tables was evidence that there was plenty of catching up to do.

At this time of Remembrance, we reflect upon the service and sacrifice of our servicemen and women, and we all must show our appreciation and respect for their service. I am pleased that this event for veterans was such an occasion and I look forward to further events to support our veterans in the future.”
