MP Carla Lockhart Welcomes Royal Visit to Upper Bann's Edenvilla Secret Garden

Carla Lockhart MP • September 17, 2024

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart MP has welcomed Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Gloucester, to Upper Bann during her visit to Edenvilla Secret Garden, Portadown. The Duchess, accompanied by her son, the Earl of Ulster, toured the beautiful walled garden and engaged with a wide range of local community groups and volunteers who contribute to making Edenvilla a thriving hub for the borough.

During the visit, The Duchess had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Men’s Shed, The Arc, Green Gym, and several of our vibrant local sports clubs, including Portadown Hockey and Tennis Club. The event celebrated the exceptional contributions of these groups, whose dedication and passion continue to make a positive impact on the community.

The young members of Edenderry Methodist’s GB and BB teams were also present and had the chance to speak with The Duchess, showcasing the enthusiasm and community spirit of the younger generation. Their involvement really did add to the vibrancy of the day.

MP Carla Lockhart expressed her pride in the visit, stating:

"It was a wonderful day for Upper Bann as we welcomed The Duchess of Gloucester and the Earl of Ulster to Edenvilla. This visit was a fantastic opportunity to highlight the incredible work done by local volunteers, community leaders, and sports groups. From the Men’s Shed and The Arc to Green Gym and our outstanding sports clubs, including Portadown Hockey and Tennis Club, each group plays a vital role in making Upper Bann a vibrant and supportive place to live. It was also heartwarming to see the children from Edenderry Methodist’s GB and BB teams meeting The Duchess – true stars of the day!

I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those involved, particularly the staff and team at Edenvilla and Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council, for their dedication in making this royal visit such a success.

The visit was a shining example of the strength and unity within the Upper Bann community, showcasing the tireless work of individuals and organisations committed to improving local life.”
