Lurgan Show hailed as a ‘resounding success

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart has paid tribute to the organisers of Lurgan Show following a tremendous 2023 Show, held on Saturday in Lurgan Park.
Speaking after attending the event, Carla Lockhart said:
“Planning a show on this scale takes a huge amount of work. I know that the team behind Lurgan Show hit the ground running to plan for 2023 as soon as the 2022 Show closed. It is a year long commitment, and when you consider this is all the work of volunteers, it is a huge credit to all involved.
Lurgan Park was bustling with huge crowds in glorious sunshine, and it is always a delight to see people of all ages out and about at the Show. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy, with a range of animals for people to see, but also a wide array of stalls showcasing fantastic local businesses.
Lurgan Show is now one of the leading agricultural shows in Northern Ireland and I believe today was one of the best shows hosted by the Show Committee. It was a resounding success, and I know the team will now build for better again in 2024.”

Carla Lockhart, MP for Upper Bann, has expressed her disappointment at the UK Government’s decision to “pause” the Mid South West (MSW) Region Growth Deal alongside other City Deals in Northern Ireland. The deal, which would have brought £252 million of investment to the region, is now on hold, threatening vital economic and social opportunities for the local area. The Mid South West deal takes in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, Fermanagh and Omagh District and Mid Ulster Council.
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart has concluded a very successful series of advice clinics in Upper Bann aimed at supporting local veterans. Held on Friday 16th August in Lurgan and Portadown and Friday 13th September in Banbridge, the clinics were organised in partnership with Help for Heroes NI Welfare Officer, Ben Higgins, and provided vital assistance to many veterans seeking help with benefits and welfare queries.
Carla Lockhart MP has welcomed the good news that school support staff across Northern Ireland will benefit from an agreed pay and grading review. This resolution, delivered by DUP Minister Paul Givan MLA in partnership with representative unions, marks a significant step forward for the dedicated staff who play such a vital role in supporting our schools.

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart has today attended a crucial event in Westminster, standing alongside the WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) campaigners in their ongoing fight for justice. The event, which brought together women from across the UK, shone a spotlight on the Government’s failure to properly communicate the changes to the State Pension age—leaving thousands of 1950s-born women unfairly impacted.

After extensive lobbying on behalf of local residents, the works—carried out by the Department for Infrastructure—have seen footpaths scuffled and cleaned, and overgrown trees and hedges cut back.
Last night in Parliament, Carla Lockhart, MP for Upper Bann, stood firmly against the Government's decision to cut universal winter fuel payments for pensioners, describing the move as “not only misguided, but downright cruel.” In a powerful speech, Ms. Lockhart highlighted the devastating consequences this policy will have on pensioners across the UK, particularly those in Upper Bann. Ma Lockhart also voted against such a cut.
