LOCKHART WELCOMES BANBRIDGE ACADEMY POLITICS STUDENTS TO WESTMINSTER

Carla Lockhart MP • June 17, 2026

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the enthusiasm and political engagement of students from Banbridge Academy following a recent visit by the school’s Politics class to Westminster.

Mrs Lockhart, alongside Lord Dodds, met with the students during their visit and answered questions on a wide range of political issues and parliamentary matters.

Carla Lockhart MP said:

“It was a pleasure to welcome students from Banbridge Academy to Westminster and to spend time discussing politics, Parliament and public life with them.”

“Despite an early start and a busy day of travel, the students were fully engaged throughout the visit and demonstrated a genuine interest in politics and current affairs.”

“They certainly did not hold back when it came to asking questions. Their enthusiasm, knowledge and willingness to engage in discussion was extremely impressive and made for a thoroughly enjoyable visit.”

“It is always encouraging to see young people taking such a keen interest in how decisions are made and how our democratic institutions operate. Opportunities such as this help bring politics to life and provide valuable insight into the work carried out at Westminster.”

“I also want to pay tribute to the teachers at Banbridge Academy for organising the visit and for encouraging students to engage with politics and public affairs. Their efforts help equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to play an active role in society.”

“I hope the students enjoyed their time at Westminster and that the experience will encourage many of them to continue taking an interest in politics, public service and civic life in the years ahead.”
