Lockhart shows support for dementia research

Carla Lockhart MP • September 12, 2023

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart joined with MPs from across the House of Commons in expressing her support for greater Government backing for research into the causes of dementia last week.

Speaking after attending an event in Westminster, the DUP representative said:

“Sadly dementia has impacted upon many lives and many families across Upper Bann. It is an extremely cruel illness, not just for those who bear it every day, but also for loved ones who care for those with a diagnosis and the impact of the illness.

It is vital that the Government recognise the importance of funding research into the causes and treatment of dementia. No one with a dementia diagnosis has ever recovered, a stark reality recognising the severity of this illness.

I will be working with cross-party MPs to champion this call on the Government as we seek to gain a greater understanding of the cause of this cruel disease. The Government must go beyond words and show a real and meaningful intent to tackle dementia for the benefit of future generations.”
