Exports Minister meets Lockhart on visit to local businesses

Carla Lockhart MP • October 11, 2022

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has met with the Minister for Exports at the Department for International Trade, Marcus Fysh MP, on a visit to Upper Bann. The Minister visited local firms AJ Power and Thompson Aero Seating in the course of his visit.

Carla Lockhart said:

“This was the Ministers first visit to Northern Ireland since taking up the role following the recent appointments made by the new Prime Minister. I am delighted that businesses in Upper Bann were part of that visit.

Both AJ Power and Thompson Aero Seating are success stories when it comes to putting Northern Ireland on the map with exports. In the course of these engagements it was clear that the Minister was impressed by what was happening at both firms. Key to this is the pool of highly skilled local labour that really are the backbone of both companies and key to their success.

Of course manufacturing is facing extreme pressures as a result of the increased cost of energy and I made the point to the Minister that if output by local manufacturers was to be sustained, and jobs protected, we needed both short-term intervention to alleviate pressures on companies, but also a medium and longer term strategy whereby we are more energy dependent. This must be a Government priority.

It is always good to have Ministers visit Upper Bann and I know that all who have visited have been impressed. I will continue to do all I can to showcase local success, but also be a strong advocate for local business and employment.”
