Community transport funding welcome

Carla Lockhart MP • April 4, 2023

Local MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed confirmation that funding has been made available to support the provision of DART Community transport services in the area.

Welcoming the news, the DUP representative said:

“It is a very welcome news that our local community transport providers will receive an extension in their core ‘dial-a-lift’ funding beyond the end of April.

I have been engaging with DART and with the Department for Instructure concerning the need for this vital service to be maintained. For many it is the means by which they can reach essential services, with around 200,000 journeys provided per year by community transport providers. The need is most acute in rural areas where public transport links are insufficient.

It is now vital that further clarity is provided moving forward as to how the service will be supported into the future. This is vital for groups like DART to plan ahead, and I will continue to press for ongoing support for the sector.”
