Christmas Message

Carla Lockhart MP • December 18, 2023

Speaking ahead of Christmas day Carla Lockhart MP said, “As the festive period is now upon us, I wanted to extend warm Christmas greetings to you and your loved ones, and all of my constituents here in Upper Bann. I hope this holiday time allows you a well-deserved opportunity to rest and refresh, whilst you enjoy moments of joy with family and friends.

Christmas isn’t just a season of exchanging gifts or indulging in too much turkey or mince pies, it is of course a time when we can take a moment to reflect on the year past, and set about planning for the new year ahead.

For many this year has been filled with happy moments. Moments to celebrate and moments to remember for a lifetime. However, for many in our community the ongoing pressures of the cost of living have made each day a battle – financially and mentally. Similarly, the impact of loneliness, ill health or loss of a loved one will make this Christmas difficult. It is my hope that the next year brings people hope – hope of a better tomorrow for all. Hope that can be found in the true meaning of Christmas, celebrated by Christians across the world.

At this time of year we also give thanks to those serving the community, and their contributions to our nation. It’s in these moments of reflection that we can truly appreciate the positive impact of so many. Our amazing healthcare workers, our PSNI, other emergency services and many others will work right through Christmas. I want to publicly thank each one of these amazing people for their service, and dedication to the wellbeing of our community. Likewise, our armed forces serving at home and abroad are very much in our thoughts, as they spend Christmas separated from loved ones.

Thank you to many of you for your unwavering support in 2023, for your commitment to our community and for making Upper Bann such a special place for which I am honoured to represent. Be assured that in 2024, my work for you will continue unabated.

Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas.
