Ulster-Scots Music and Dance Tuition Programme Now Open for Applications

Carla Lockhart MP • June 11, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the opening of the Ulster-Scots Agency’s Music and Dance Tuition Programme and is encouraging voluntary and community organisations across the constituency to consider applying for this valuable cultural support.

The programme, which will run from 1 September 2025 to 31 May 2026, offers funding for music and dance tuition rooted in Ulster-Scots traditions. It is designed to promote cultural heritage and provide structured, accredited learning opportunities across local communities.

Speaking on the announcement, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for community groups to engage with and promote the rich Ulster-Scots traditions that have shaped so much of our cultural life in Northern Ireland. Whether through music or dance, this programme supports skills development, heritage preservation and community involvement.

I would strongly encourage groups across Upper Bann to apply and take advantage of this support, which not only enriches our local culture but also provides meaningful activities for people of all ages.”

The programme includes two application streams:

  • Music Tuition: Supports up to 20 weeks of tuition in Ulster-Scots musical traditions, including optional accreditation.
  • Dance Tuition: Covers up to 30 weeks of Highland or Scottish Country Dance tuition, also with the option of accredited learning.

Applications for music and dance must be submitted separately. The deadline for applications is 3pm on Thursday 17 July 2025.
