Operation Work Experience Successfully Completed

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised a group of local students who recently completed a period of work experience through her office, describing them as “a real credit to themselves, their families and their schools.”

Over the past number of weeks, students from schools across the constituency have taken part in a wide-ranging programme designed to give them first-hand experience of public life, local industry and the workings of government.

Carla Lockhart MP said:

“It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome such a fantastic group of work experience students to my office over the past number of weeks. I want to place on record my sincere thanks to Jack, Rachel and Faith from Banbridge Academy, Abbie from Lurgan College, and Gracie from Dromore High School.

“From day one they got fully involved and embraced every opportunity presented to them. They visited local factories to learn about manufacturing, took part in a STEM and engineering careers discussion with AJ Power, toured Craigavon Civic Centre to better understand how local government operates, and visited community associations to see the vital work being carried out at grassroots level.

“They also visited the Ancre Somme Association headquarters, spent time at the Bank of Ireland discussing economics and viewing their new defibrillator, and attended the Big Northern Ireland Farm Machinery Show at the Eikon Centre to gain insight into one of our most important industries.

“In addition, they accompanied me on constituency calls and saw first-hand how my office works to support local people with a wide range of issues. It is important that young people understand both the challenges and the responsibilities that come with representing a constituency.

“Gracie also had the opportunity to travel to London, where she witnessed Prime Minister’s Questions in Westminster, met Nigel Farage and experienced frontline politics in action. That is an experience she will not forget in a hurry.

“Each of these young people demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity and a genuine interest in public life. It has been inspiring to see their confidence grow and to watch them engage so thoughtfully with the issues affecting our community.

“I have no doubt that the future is bright for each of them. I wish them every success as they continue their studies and move forward into the next chapter of their lives. I am confident they will excel in whatever path they choose.”
