New Year Message

Carla Lockhart MP • January 3, 2024

As we enter into the New Year, I am so thankful for the trust and support you have afforded to me throughout the last twelve months. Serving as your Member of Parliament is such an honour, but also a huge responsibility.

Reflecting on the challenges experienced in the last year, I am heartened by the resilience and unity displayed within our community. I am proud of what we, together, have achieved.

The year behind us has been marked by unprecedented events that tested our collective resolve. For example, this could be seen when we witnessed flooding devastate so many homes and businesses in Portadown. The community rallied behind those impacted, showing that unity within our community that makes this part of Ulster such a special place.

Looking ahead, we ought to be hopeful that the next twelve months can bring progress, both within communities but also in the political realm. None of us are happy with our current political impasse. Devolved institutions must be restored on the basis of cross community consent, and then set about delivering for you, the people we are tasked to represent and serve. Our collective commitment to a brighter future for everyone in Northern Ireland must remain.

We will also, almost certainly, face a General Election in the course of the next twelve months. This will be divisive on a national level, and a change in Government is predicted. Locally, I will once again seek your support to continue my work on bread and butter issues that matter to you.

I pledge to continue serving you with passion and determination. I am committed to being your voice, advocating for our values, and working tirelessly to address the issues that matter most to our community.

Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and successful New Year!
