MP encouraging local producers to enter BBC Food and Farming Awards
DUP Agriculture spokesperson, Carla Lockhart MP, has welcomed confirmation that the 2026 BBC Food and Farming Awards will be held in Northern Ireland for the first time.

The MP said: “I am absolutely delighted that Northern Ireland is set to host the BBC Food and Farming Awards in October. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our outstanding farmers and local food and drink producers on the national stage.
“Northern Ireland has earned a fantastic reputation for excellence in food and farming, and it is very fitting that these highly acclaimed awards will be celebrated in the Province, marking the 26th Anniversary of the awards.”
The Upper Bann MP added: “The event at Titanic Belfast will provide a major boost for tourism, hospitality and the agri-food sector, while recognising the hard work and innovation of those who contribute so much to our economy and local communities.
“Congratulations to talented local chef Paula McIntyre on her appointment as Head Judge for this year’s awards. Her passion for promoting local produce, and our Ulster Scots heritage, make her an excellent ambassador for Northern Ireland.”
There are nine judges in total, including BBC Radio Ulster’s Eve Blair. She will be joined by BBC colleagues, Sheila Dillon from The Food Programme, and Countryfile’s Adam Henson.
The MP said: “I was delighted to meet Adam Henson at last week’s Balmoral Show. He was in Northern Ireland for the official launch of the Food and Farming Awards.
“I would strongly encourage local businesses and producers to take part in the awards and put themselves forward for recognition. We have exceptional talent across Northern Ireland and this is a fantastic platform to celebrate and promote the very best of what we have to offer.”
There are eight award categories, including: Best Food Producer, Best Drinks Producer, Digital Creator, Farming for the Future, Food Innovation, Young Countryside Champion, Food Hero and Outstanding Achievement Award.
