MP CELEBRATES SUCCESS OF SCOTCH STREET YOUTH & COMMUNITY CENTRE AT AGM

Carla Lockhart MP • February 5, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the incredible work of Scotch Street Youth & Community Centre (SSYC) following its recent AGM, where she had the honour of chairing proceedings. The event brought together young people, families, and dedicated volunteers to celebrate another successful year for the centre, which continues to provide a vital space for youth engagement and community activities.

Reflecting on the evening, Carla Lockhart MP said:

"It was a real privilege to chair the AGM and hear directly from the young people about the impact the club has had on their lives. The centre is truly bursting at the seams with energy, activities, and a real sense of belonging. It embodies the spirit of 'One Big Family,' and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces as well as new ones.”

The MP also paid tribute to those who play a key role in the success of the club, adding:

"Huge congratulations to Gordon and Bethany, who will once again be at the helm steering the club forward, and to the newly elected committee – well done on your appointment. Your dedication and hard work ensure that SSYC continues to thrive."

Looking back on her long-standing connection with the centre, Carla Lockhart MP remarked:

"Twelve years ago, when I was Mayor, I had the privilege of opening this wonderful facility and unveiling the plaque that still stands today. It has been incredible to watch the centre grow from strength to strength, and I know that the best is yet to come.

A special thank you must go to Don Woolsey – someone who is always there to put the lights on, turn the heat on, tidy up, and provide the land and space that makes this facility possible. His commitment, alongside that of the many volunteers who give their time so selflessly, is truly remarkable."

Carla Lockhart MP concluded by reaffirming her support for SSYC, saying:

"Scotch Street Youth & Community Centre is a cornerstone of the Scotch Street community, and I will continue to champion the work it does. I look forward to seeing even greater things ahead for this fantastic organisation."
