Advance lane closures and preparatory works are now underway and are expected to continue for approximately eight weeks to facilitate the scheme ahead of the main resurfacing programme.

The main resurfacing works are scheduled to take place from Monday 17 August until Friday 11 September, with road closures in operation Monday to Friday, from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

“I am delighted to see this important resurfacing scheme progressing. Advance lane closures and preparatory works are now underway, marking another step forward in delivering a project that I have long lobbied for on behalf of local residents and the Bridge Primary School community.

“The condition of the Ballygowan Road has been a source of frustration for many years. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns with me, and I have consistently pressed the Department for Infrastructure to prioritise investment. It is therefore very welcome to see this significant scheme now moving ahead.

“I fully appreciate that the preparatory works, lane closures and the main resurfacing programme will cause some disruption. I would ask everyone to bear with the contractors during this period. These works are necessary to ensure the road is resurfaced to a high standard, and I am confident the finished result will be well worth the temporary inconvenience.

“Good roads are essential for local communities, supporting residents, businesses, schools and the wider economy. This investment will greatly improve the condition of the Ballygowan Road and enhance safety and reliability for everyone who uses it.

“While I warmly welcome this scheme, there is still much more to do. I will continue pressing for further investment across Upper Bann to ensure more roads receive the attention they deserve and that long-standing maintenance backlogs are addressed.”

Carla Lockhart encouraged motorists to allow extra time for their journeys during the works and thanked residents for their patience while the improvement scheme is completed.
