Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the official opening of Lidl’s new store in Craigavon, describing the £10 million investment as a major vote of confidence in the local area and a significant boost for the local economy.

Mrs Lockhart attended the official opening ceremony and congratulated Lidl on its continued investment across the constituency, highlighting the positive impact the development will have for local shoppers, employees and the wider community.

Speaking following the opening, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“I was delighted to attend the official opening of Lidl’s new Craigavon store and to see first-hand this significant investment in our local area.”

“This £10 million development represents a major boost for Craigavon and the wider Upper Bann constituency. The new store supports around 40 jobs and demonstrates Lidl’s ongoing commitment to investing in our communities.”

“Over recent years, I have worked closely with Lidl as they have expanded their presence across the constituency, and I am pleased to have supported efforts to help bring these investments and opportunities to our area.”

“With stores now serving communities in Lurgan, Banbridge, Portadown and Craigavon, Lidl continues to play an important role in providing choice for consumers while creating employment and supporting economic growth.”

“At a time when many households are carefully managing their budgets, increased retail choice and competition is welcome. This new store will provide local people with greater convenience while contributing positively to the local economy.”

“It is encouraging to see businesses continuing to invest in Upper Bann and recognising the potential that exists within our local communities. Investments such as this help strengthen our economy, support local families and enhance the services available to residents.”

“I want to congratulate the entire Lidl team on reaching this important milestone and wish them every success as they begin serving customers from their new Craigavon location.”

Mrs Lockhart said the investment reflected growing confidence in the area and demonstrated the importance of encouraging businesses to invest, expand and create opportunities across Upper Bann.
