Lockhart Supports Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal and Calls for Improved End of Life Care

Carla Lockhart MP • March 24, 2026

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has pledged her support for improved palliative and end of life care services following her attendance at Marie Curie’s Great Daffodil Appeal event in Parliament.

Mrs Lockhart praised the vital work of Marie Curie nurses, recognising the care and support they provide to individuals and families at some of the most difficult moments in their lives.

The Upper Bann MP said greater focus is needed to ensure people are properly supported at the end of life and that no one is left facing financial hardship or barriers to accessing care.

Commenting, Mrs Lockhart said:

“Many people will know the incredible work that Marie Curie nurses do, providing care and support at what is often the darkest hour for patients and their families.

Death is something none of us like to think about, but it matters deeply for those going through it and for the loved ones around them. We must ensure that people are properly supported at such a difficult time.

I will be supporting calls for long-term and sustainable investment in palliative and end of life care services in Northern Ireland, as well as early access to the state pension level income for all terminally ill people.

There is also a need to raise greater awareness of death, dying and bereavement, and to build more compassionate, informed communities across Northern Ireland.

No one should be left worrying about money or struggling to access care at the end of their life. We can and must do better.

I want to thank Marie Curie for the incredible work they carry out every day, supporting individuals and families when they need it most.”
