Carla Lockhart MP • February 25, 2026

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised Ulster Carpets following a visit to the Portadown-based, family-controlled manufacturer, describing it as a world-leading company that continues to showcase the very best of Northern Ireland industry on the global stage. With its global export success, major multi-million pound investment and 350 strong workforce at Portadown Ms Lockhart has hailed it a world leading manufacturer.

Carla Lockhart MP said:

“It was a real pleasure to visit Ulster Carpets, a company that has been part of the fabric of Portadown for decades and remains a flagship business for both Upper Bann and Northern Ireland.

With millions of pounds invested in new looms and upgraded facilities, and around 350 valued local employees, Ulster Carpets is competing confidently on the world stage, producing high-quality carpets for luxury hotels, cruise ships and prestigious venues across the globe.

I was particularly encouraged to see work already underway on a new Wellbeing Hub, due to open in September. That investment demonstrates a genuine commitment to supporting staff and creating a positive workplace environment.

What stood out most during my visit was the atmosphere within the company. There is a loyal and dedicated workforce, with many families spanning generations of employment, which speaks volumes about the culture and leadership of the business.

It was a pleasure to speak at length with Nick Coburn, Managing Director, about the company’s continued growth and ambition for the future.

Business is the backbone of our economy. Upper Bann is blessed with a strong and resilient business base, and Ulster Carpets is a shining example of what Northern Ireland can achieve. I will continue to champion and fight for our local businesses every step of the way.”
