Lockhart Praises Banbridge Rugby Club Ahead of 100th Anniversary

Carla Lockhart MP • November 5, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has praised the work and community spirit of Banbridge Rugby Club, following her visit to the club’s Big Breakfast on Saturday morning.

Speaking after attending the event, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“It was fantastic to join Banbridge Rugby Club for their brilliant Big Breakfast. It was a great opportunity to meet members, supporters, and volunteers, and to hear about the exciting plans as the club approaches its 100th anniversary next year, a huge milestone for both the club and the wider community.

I was also delighted to get a tour of the new clubhouse extension, a project I have been involved with from the early planning stages and in helping to secure Levelling Up funding from Westminster to make it a reality. The progress is excellent, and I look forward to seeing the official opening very soon.

These new facilities will be transformational for the club, particularly in encouraging and supporting female participation in rugby. Banbridge Rugby Club has made tremendous strides in promoting women’s sport, and this investment will help take that even further. I am proud to have played a part in helping to bring this project forward.”

Mrs Lockhart added her congratulations to the committee, players, and supporters who continue to build on the club’s proud legacy:

“Banbridge Rugby Club is a real asset to our area, fostering teamwork, fitness, and friendship across all ages. As they near their centenary, I wish everyone involved every success in the years ahead.”
