Lockhart joins Orange Leaders at COVID Memorial Service

Carla Lockhart MP • October 18, 2022

Local DUP MP Carla Lockhart has joined with County Armagh Grand Orange Lodge Officers at the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland’s COVID-19 Memorial Service, in St. Mark’s Portadown.

Speaking after the service, Mrs Lockhart said:

“This was a very moving service, as we remembered those brethren from within the Orange family who lost their lives during the pandemic.

So many families have been left with the empty chair, and broken hearts following the loss of a loved one.

It is right that we remember those who passed away during the pandemic. Many families did not have the opportunity to gather to mourn and give thanks for the lives of those who have passed away. This service ensured their death was marked by the Institution of which they were members.

The Orange Institution is to be commended for their response to the pandemic. The Christian ethos and charitable generosity of the Institution made a real difference to so many people at the height of the pandemic. Indeed today we also see the positive role of the Institution in dealing with grief.

I commend the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland for holding the service.”
