Festive events bringing communities together across Upper Bann

Carla Lockhart MP • December 6, 2022

Local MP Carla Lockhart has joined with local community groups and churches across Upper Bann at a series of Christmas events over the last number of days. The DUP representative paid tribute to all those involved in bringing people together to celebrate Christmas.

Commenting, Carla said:

“Christmas is a time when families and communities come together, and as MP it is an absolute pleasure to join with people as they host local events across the constituency.

Over recent days it has been so enjoyable to be at a number of events where communities are building up to Christmas. Waringstown Presbyterian Church were hosted by the Lord Mayor in the Palace at Armagh to celebrate the work that has led to their new Hall and to mark their ongoing Christian witness in Waringstown. Also in Waringstown, the community joined together to welcome Santa on a visit to see the kids. It is always so special to see the kids faces at these events, and a huge thank you to Alan Hudson and all the volunteers who made this happen.

Santa was also busy making visits in Killicomaine at the Craft Fayre, organised by Killicomaine Residents Group. This was a lovely event showcasing so many local crafters, with lovely music and food. Santa then made his way to Derrycarne Rural Community Association where he arrived in style on a trike and sledge. A big thank you and well done to Trevor and Kelly and their team for all the work in making this event so enjoyable for all ages.

A final word of thanks to St Johns in Lurgan for hosting an excellent event called ‘Train to Christmas’. This was a unique event and Rev Kettyle and the church are to be commended for their endeavours at reaching out to the community with the good news of the Christmas story.

Over the coming days I would encourage everyone to keep an eye out for activities in their communities. In these challenging financial times, so many activities are available free of charge, or at a small cost, and are hugely enjoyable. There is so much to enjoy on our doorstep, so please do support these volunteer led activities.”
