DUP welcome Mahon Play Park progress

Carla Lockhart MP • March 7, 2023

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined with Portadown DUP Councillor Lavelle McIlwrath in welcoming planning consent for a new Play Park on Mahon Road, Portadown. Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council Planning Committee approved the plans at its most recent meeting.

Carla Lockhart said:

“This is fantastic news for the local community in the Mahon Road area. This part of Portadown has seen significant numbers of new homes in recent years, and has a large number of young families. It is vitally important therefore that the Council keep pace with these developments, with the provision of local, modern, play facilities that offer a safe space for children to play. I commend my colleague, Councillor Lavelle McIlwrath, for his determination in securing this investment.”

I am delighted that this play park has now received planning approval. This is a significant staging post to reach in the delivery of this project, and now we will continue to work towards a speedy commencement of works on site.”

Portadown Councillor Lavelle McIlwrath added:

“I have been championing this proposal for some time. It is fantastic to have reached this point.

The play park will be positioned next to the junction of Clendinning Avenue and Clendinning Drive, and I know that the play facilities planned will be greatly enjoyed by local children.

As a party we put play facilities as a key priority in our last manifesto, and this park is just another example of delivery of our pledges to the people of Portadown.”
