Carla Lockhart MP • November 26, 2024

Carla Lockhart, Member of Parliament for Upper Bann, has commended the pupils of Waringstown Primary School for their enthusiasm and success in the recent Sunflower Growing Competition, organised by Well Kept Waringstown. Carla had the pleasure of attending the school’s morning assembly to present prizes to the young gardeners and celebrate their efforts.

The competition, which took place over the summer, encouraged pupils to grow sunflowers, with prizes awarded by the MP for the tallest plants. The initiative was designed to engage children in gardening and to foster a love for nature and the environment.

Speaking after the event, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“It was an absolute pleasure to join Waringstown Primary School’s morning assembly and present prizes for the Sunflower Growing Competition. The excitement and pride of the pupils was truly infectious, and it was wonderful to see the effort they had put into nurturing their sunflowers.

“A big congratulations to all the prize winners and to every pupil who took part—you should all be so proud of your achievements. Thank you to the teachers, parents, and families who supported the children throughout the competition, and to Well Kept Waringstown for organising such a fantastic initiative that brings so much joy to the community.”

Carla also expressed her gratitude to the school for the warm welcome she received:

“A huge thank you to the principal and staff at Waringstown Primary School for their hospitality. It was lovely to hear the children’s laughter and see them enjoying their assembly—it brought back fond memories of my own school days!

“It was a privilege to sponsor the prizes and celebrate the creativity, hard work, and teamwork of these budding gardeners. Waringstown is blessed with a strong community spirit, and initiatives like this truly showcase it.”
