Waringstown Big Spring Clean Up attended by MP

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has attended Well Kept Waringstown’s Big Spring Clean which is part of a Live here, Love here initiative.  The BIG Spring Clean is Northern Ireland's largest volunteer clean-up campaign and is designed to support local community action through clean-up support.  The campaign takes place annually from 1st March to 30th April and is open to everyone, including individuals, schools, community groups, and businesses from all backgrounds.

Speaking following Saturday’s event in Waringstown Carla Lockhart said, “it is always a pleasure to help out in community lead initiatives and Saturday proved so rewarding when you see all of the litter and rubbish piled high.  Charlie and I alongside my colleague Diane Dodds MLA walked the Main Street with Charlie loving finding litter and helping us with our efforts.  It was so encouraging to see the Girl Guides out helping and this really confined to me the need to engage out young people in civic duties and instilling in them the need to give back to their community and to help the environment and world around them.

I want to sincerely thank and commend Mr Trevor Beatty for his efforts alongside the Well Kept Waringstown group.  This group although still relatively new have embraced the village and the need to keep the area tidy and well kept.  They don’t wait for others to do it they get on about their business and fulfilling their aims and objectives.

Also to the Women’s Institute a big thank you for the eatables after the work was completed.  They certainly served up a lovely morning tea.

All round it was great to be part of a well organised community big spring clean up event.  I would also commend all the efforts across Upper Bann as I know many groups and organisations embraced this initiative.”
