Upper Bann MP Secures Solution To Nuisance Driving in Charlestown Industrial Estate

Carla Lockhart MP is pleased to announce the upcoming installation of permanent speed cushions in Charlestown Industrial Estate to address the ongoing issue of boy and girl racers. For years, residents and businesses have been plagued by disturbances from loud exhausts, handbrake turns, and illegal dumping of tyres.

"Residents in the area have been tortured by the noise and disruption caused by these boy and girl racers," said the DUP MP. "Businesses in the estate have also experienced significant difficulties. A couple of years ago, Cllr Margaret Tinsley and I secured the installation of a temporary ramp to help curtail the problem. However, due to HGV usage, it soon became ineffective."


The MP and Cllr. Tinsley have been in regular contact with Invest NI, advocating for a more permanent solution. "We are pleased to report that Invest NI will be placing permanent speed cushions within the site next month. The locations for these speed cushions are throughout the Charlestown Industrial Estate."


The MP for Upper Bann added, "This is a significant step forward for the community. I want to thank the residents for their patience and support in getting this over the line. We have worked hard to ensure a solution that addresses the concerns of both residents and businesses. When I have exact timings for the commencement of the work, I will ensure nearby residents are updated. The safety and peace of mind of constituents is paramount, and I will continue to work diligently to improve our local area."


The installation of these speed cushions marks a major victory for the residents and businesses in the Charlestown Industrial Estate, showcasing the effectiveness of persistent advocacy from the DUP representatives in Upper Bann.
