New Year Message to the People of Upper Bann
As we enter a new year, Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has reflected on the challenges of the past 12 months while setting out her priorities for 2026, reaffirming her commitment to serving constituents across the area.

Carla Lockhart MP said:
“I hope that everyone was able to enjoy some rest over Christmas and the New Year. As many people return to work, often in difficult conditions following recent severe weather, it is also a time when people reflect on the year gone by and look ahead to what lies ahead.
“For many, 2025 was a tough grind. Rising prices impacted households across Upper Bann, and for too many families the pressures of everyday life felt relentless. I have been acutely aware of these challenges through my constituency work and through the many conversations I have had with people across our towns, villages and rural communities.
“One of the most serious ongoing issues remains access to proper, humane care within our health service. This is not a criticism of frontline staff, who work tirelessly in extremely stressful conditions. However, mismanaged funding and increasing demand mean our health system is not delivering the level of care people rightly expect. We must ensure that those who live here, pay their taxes and are in genuine need receive the care they deserve. Our health service must be fit for purpose.
“As we move into 2026, the Government must get a grip on immigration. There can be no more economic migrants coming to the UK simply to live off the benefits system, and no more illegal arrivals who refuse to integrate and leave women feeling unsafe in our towns and cities. Women have a right to feel safe. Rights come with responsibilities, and those who commit violent or sexual crimes should be deported. At the same time, there are thousands of jobs that could be filled by those seeking asylum. People should be allowed to work, contribute and pay their way.
“It is not all bad news. Interest rates have begun to ease, retail prices have stabilised slightly, and the Government has backtracked on its proposed inheritance tax changes for family farms. More work is still needed, and I will continue to fight for action on the high cost of insurance in Northern Ireland, support for our hospitality sector, a reduction in air passenger duty, and to address the many issues arising from the Windsor Framework and the Northern Ireland Protocol. I have been consistent in opposing barriers to NI GB trade and will continue to do so.
“Balancing Westminster responsibilities, constituency work and family life remains my priority. I am deeply thankful for the continued support, encouragement and prayers I receive. I never take for granted the immense privilege it is to represent Upper Bann at Westminster.
“As we look ahead to 2026, I wish everyone a blessed, happy and prosperous year. Thank you for your continued support. It is my privilege to represent you, and I will continue to do so with the same commitment, energy and determination to make Upper Bann an even better place to live, work and do business.
“As always, my constituency offices are open and available to assist. Whether it is an issue relating to housing, benefits, health, education, infrastructure or any other concern, my team and I are here to help. I would encourage anyone who needs support to get in touch, call in, or make contact by phone or email. My priority remains delivering for the people of Upper Bann.”
