Lockhart Welcomes Further Safety Improvements on Derryhubbert Road

Carla Lockhart MP • February 18, 2026

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed further progress on road safety measures at Derryhubbert Road, confirming that additional glare-reduction works are now set to be installed following her engagement with the Department for Infrastructure.

In November, Ms Lockhart successfully lobbied for the installation of new motorway fencing along Derryhubbert Road after concerns were raised by local residents and motorists regarding safety along the stretch of road.

Following completion of the barrier, further concerns were brought to her attention about headlight glare affecting drivers at night.

Carla Lockhart MP said:

“Back in November, I worked with the Department for Infrastructure to secure the installation of new motorway fencing along Derryhubbert Road after residents and motorists raised serious safety concerns. I am pleased that this was delivered.

“However, once the barrier was in place, I was contacted again by local drivers who highlighted issues with headlight glare at night. I immediately raised this with the Department to ensure the matter was addressed without delay.

“I have now received confirmation that additional glare-reduction mesh, which meets current motorway standards, is being sourced and will be installed on top of the new barrier. This will provide an added layer of safety and reassurance for those using this route.”

Ms Lockhart thanked residents for continuing to engage with her office.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to get in touch. It is through raising these issues that practical improvements can be delivered. I will continue working to ensure concerns are acted upon and that safety remains a priority for our local road network.”
