Last Saturday a fitting end to fantastic marching season

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart joined thousands of people in Loughgall on Saturday, as the Royal Black Institution held their ‘Last Saturday’ demonstration.

Speaking after attending, the DUP representative said:

“The Last Saturday is the annual finale to the marching season in Northern Ireland. The Royal Black Institution brings thousands of members onto parade, along with an array of our fantastic local bands, in what is a colourful display of our culture and heritage.

I would congratulate Summerisland Royal Black District Chapter No 6 on organising a wonderful day here in Loughgall. The village was packed and it was evident that a huge amount of work had gone into making this day a success, that could be enjoyed by everyone.

I know the same could be said for the County Down procession in Dromore, where again thousands of Sir Knights and bandsmen and women were on parade. It is a wonderful spectacle to see the banners, the lodges and bands and a credit to everyone involved.

This has been a very successful marching season and in the last number of months thousands of people have taken part in parades, or watched parades. It reminds us of the importance of celebrating and maintaining our culture and heritage and that is vitally important, to ensure we pass these traditions on to future generations.”
