COMMUNITY SPIRIT SHINES IN UPPER BANN

Carla Lockhart MP • December 4, 2024

MP for Upper Bann, Carla Lockhart, joined residents over the weekend at several local events, celebrating the incredible community spirit that defines the area.

First, she attended the Portadown Defenders Flute Band’s “Big Brekkie,” where a packed hall enjoyed a delicious fry while supporting the band’s work in music and culture. This was followed by a visit to the Well Kept Waringstown coffee morning at Waringstown Presbyterian Church, where local volunteers were praised for their efforts in keeping the village looking pristine. The day ended with festive cheer at Waringstown Church of Ireland Hall, where families gathered for a visit from Santa Claus, aided by a wonderful team of helpers.

Following the events, Carla Lockhart said:

"It’s always a pleasure to be out and about in our local community, seeing first-hand the incredible work that goes into these events.

The Portadown Defenders Flute Band are about so much more than music—they’re a hub for young people, keeping culture alive and thriving. It was fantastic to see so many supporting their Big Brekkie.

In Waringstown, the Well Kept team never fail to impress me with their dedication to making the village shine. Trevor and Valerie deserve huge thanks, and I’d encourage anyone who can lend a hand to get involved.

Ending the day with Santa at the Church of Ireland Hall was the perfect festive treat. Big Al was missed, but Rev Mark Lennox and Santa’s elves made it a wonderful event for all.

Days like this remind us how fortunate we are to have such strong community spirit in Upper Bann. A huge thank you to everyone who gives their time to make these events happen—you are truly a credit to our area.”
