Carla Lockhart MP Welcomes Banbridge’s Nicole McKelvie to Westminster to Champion Heart Failure Awareness

Carla Lockhart MP • February 4, 2025

Carla Lockhart, MP for Upper Bann, has welcomed Banbridge lady, Mrs Nicole McKelvie back to Westminster as she continues her outstanding advocacy work with Heart Failure Warriors NI and the British Society for Heart Failure (BSH) Patient Advisory Panel.

During the visit, Carla Lockhart MP reaffirmed her commitment to making heart failure a national priority and was pleased to sign the BSH 25in25 initiative, which calls for improved care, earlier diagnosis, and better support for those living with heart failure.

Speaking after the meeting, Carla Lockhart MP said:

"Heart failure is a serious condition that affects thousands of people across the UK, yet too often it is overlooked. The 25in25 initiative aims to reduce heart failure mortality by 25% by 2025, and I am proud to support this vital campaign. We need better awareness, faster diagnosis, and improved treatment to ensure that those affected get the care they need."

Nicole McKelvie, who has been diagnosed with heart failure herself, is using her personal experience to push for change, ensuring that patient voices are heard at the highest level.

"Nicole’s passion, determination, and first-hand knowledge make her an incredible advocate. She knows exactly what needs to be done to improve outcomes for those living with heart failure. I look forward to continuing to work with her to keep this issue high on the political agenda and to drive real change. Nicole in Westminster is respected for her commitment and drive towards real change. Her charity is now synonymous with the condition and the drive for change. I highly commend her for her efforts both nationally and regionally.”
