Marking World Mental Health Day, Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart visited Gilford last week to join Changing Lives NI at their first-ever coffee morning, an event aimed at raising awareness and fostering community support for mental health. The gathering, which took place at their community hub in Gilford brought together local residents to discuss mental health issues and support those experiencing very real mental health issues in the area.

Changing Lives NI, a newly established charity, has been working tirelessly to address mental health concerns in the area, which has sadly experienced a significant number of losses to suicide.

Speaking following the visit Carla Lockhart said, “It was a real honour to attend Changing Lives NI’s first ever coffee morning to mark World Mental Health Day. I had the pleasure of attending the charity's official launch just a few months ago and am so impressed with the work they are doing in the local community.

The coffee morning was a great opportunity for open conversations and for some fundraising, with all donations set to benefit PIPS Hope and Support Lurgan, as well as the charity itself. A massive thank you must go to everyone working behind the scenes particularly the committee who all have in some way been impacted by loss to suicide or mental health issues.”

In conclusion Ms Lockhart reminded everyone of the significance of mental health awareness, saying, "Remember, #itsoknottobeok. Events like this help break the stigma and encourage people to seek help when they need it. The coffee morning marks another step in Changing Lives NI's mission to provide mental health support in Gilford and beyond, fostering hope and resilience within the community. They are such a welcoming group and I would encourage anyone who feel they need help or support to reach out.”
