Autism Awareness Card now available

Carla Lockhart MP • September 25, 2024

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, is encouraging constituents to explore the Autism Awareness Card provided by Autism NI, a practical tool designed to assist individuals with autism in everyday situations. The card enables individuals to communicate their needs more clearly and includes details of a support contact who knows them well, ensuring they receive the right help when required.

Carla Lockhart commended Autism NI for this initiative, stating:

"Autism affects many families in Upper Bann, and the challenges that come with it can often be invisible to others. The Autism Awareness Card is a fantastic resource that empowers individuals with autism by helping them communicate more easily and ensuring their needs are recognised in different social or public settings. It’s a simple but effective way to support those with autism, and I commend Autism NI for their continued efforts in bringing practical solutions to help those with a diagnosis. This is just one example of the great work they do, and I encourage anyone with an autism diagnosis, or those caring for someone with autism, to consider applying."

The card is available to individuals with a formal autism diagnosis and can be a lifeline in situations where quick communication is needed. It ensures others, including public services or businesses, understand the unique needs of the individual.
