£3 Million Secured for Major M1 Upgrade

Carla Lockhart MP • July 23, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed a significant infrastructure investment of £3 million for the M1, secured after sustained pressure on the Department for Infrastructure to prioritise road upgrades in the local area.

The improvement works will focus on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 11 (Ballynacor) and Junction 10 (Lurgan)—a stretch of road long in need of investment due to safety and capacity concerns.

Speaking after the announcement, Carla Lockhart said:

“After plenty of pressure and persistent shouting, it’s great to finally see meaningful investment in our local road network. The M1 is a vital link for commuters, businesses and families alike, and this £3 million upgrade is a direct result of ongoing lobbying and local voices demanding better infrastructure.

This is a win for everyone in Upper Bann who has faced disruption, delays and deteriorating road conditions. I’m pleased to see action being taken, and I will continue to press for further improvements where needed.”
